Goulash… Czech Style

My Mother-in-law has shared with me her Goulash recipe. She spent her early years in Prague, so it is pretty authentic:

  • 1kg pork meat
  • 1kg beef meat
  • 2kg onions
  • 2 tsp smoked paprika
  • bottle of red wine
  • 2 stock cubes
  • some oil for frying
  • flour to cover the meat
  • salt & pepper

Firstly put the paprika, flour, salt & pepper on a plate mix it all together and coat the meat in the flour mixture, then fry the meat in batches and put aside. Fry the chopped onion and finally combine the two. Add the bottle of red wine and stock cubes, bring to the boil then place in an oven and cook at 150C for 2-3 hours. The idea is that the onion becomes so soft, it becomes the thick lovely sauce. Serve with dumplings or baked potatoes and a green salad.
